Night time photography

Taking pictures at night means doing a couple of things. Read your cameras instruction manual. If you need to know about what settings to change then find out before its dark! You will really struggle reading the instructions in the dark, so practice changng the settings.

When light levels are low you need to have a longer exposure to get the right amount of light in. This means you have to keep the camera steady for a lot longer.

However this also means you can get some interest effects by deliverately twisting or moving the camera.

A tripod will eliminate movement and enable you to take clear shots.

The longer the exposure the more golden photos will appear. Too much exposure will make it look like you live in the land of gold. An interesting effect but not perhaps the one you want. Experiment with different exposure times.

Moving streaks of light give a feel to a photo.
